About

jasongabe.jpgWelcome to my photography site. I will use this photo blog to highlight some of my favorite photographs. To view my complete online archive visit the galleries.

My interest in photography began in early 2004 and really flourished after my wife and I traveled throughout Europe. Though I only used a point-and-shoot at the time, soon after I acquired a digital SLR (original Canon Digital Rebel) and never looked back. Over the last few years this hobby has continued to grow to a point where I’m now ready to share my view of the world, with the world.

In addition to photography, I’m the proud dad of Gabriel and husband to Heather. I’ve been a software engineer for 10+ years but am currently working on a doctorate in Educational Psychology at the University at Albany. For more information regarding my non-photographic endeavors, visit my personal site at bryer.org.

Artist’s Statement

This collection of photographs represents mere fleeting moments in time of my life. As time and motion so pervasively dictates the perpetual motion of our lives, photography provides an attempt to make time stand still. Though at the time I press the shutter I am attempting to capture a feelin, a memory, it is time and distance that brings those emotions into focus. For me, this is where a photograph becomes art. I share these photographs not to document moments of my life, but to express moments of emotion.

Equipment

If you’re a technical geek like I am then you may be interested in the equipment I use. Currently I use a Canon 30D camera body with the following lenses:

  • EF 24-105 f/f L IS
  • EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5
  • EF 70-200 f/4 L
  • EF 35 f/2.0
  • EF 50 f/1.8
  • 1.4x Extender II
  • 12mm extension tube

I typically shoot using only available light (using fast primes for indoors) but when I need extra light I also have a 430EX flash. The other key component that every photographer must have is a good tripod. A Manfrotto tripod with a ball head fits that bill nicely.

Post processing is done using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop CS3 along with some plugins from onOne and Fred Miranda, all done on an Apple Mac, of course.
